Who Am I ?
Hi, I am Sindhu Devi, an Indian Fashion Designer. I am passionate about designing as well as making of unique outfits and accessories. I have great affection for the Indian tradition in clothing. So, Tantu will mirror my ideas with an Indian touch.
My Professional Qualification & Occupation
I am a graduate in Fashion Designing from Mangalore University, who bagged the first rank in the year 2006. I pursued my B.Sc Fashion Design from Karavali College, Mangaluru.
I have worked as a lecturer for Fashion Designing in Gloria College of Fashion Design, Puttur, for 5 years. I had been a Member of Board of Examiners (B.Sc FD/GD), Mangaluru University and Member of Board of Question Paper Setters, Kannur University.
I had choreographed a few fashion shows and had been a Judgement team member for fashion shows in the Mangalore University and KVGE UTKARSH 10.
Currently I am a full-time designer and a full-time homemaker, keen to share my design ideas in the blogosphere.
My Hobbies are:

hi, sindu really hats off to you i tried your princess cut blouse with raglan sleeve and you know what, first time in my life it came out well in one try. so many blouses(normal ones) i have spoiled while learning, and even now spoiling,but your tutorial is really great, i recommend it to all. BUT I HAVE DOUBT IN THE SHOULDER WIDTH OF BACK BLOUSE, SINCE WE KEEP THE NECK DEEP THE WIDTH OF SHOULDER STRAP IS LESS RIGHT, SO HOW WILL YOU MANAGE TO JOIN THE FRONT AND BACK SHOULDER FOR NORMAL SLEEVES, PLEASE INCLUDE THAT MEASUREMENT IN THE BASIC BLOUSE DRAFT, THE WIDTH OF THE SHOULDER STRAP FOR FRONT AND BACK,USUALLY IN MY BLOUSE IT SHOWS 2.5INCH, BUT PLEASE CONFIRM IN YOUR DRAFT.

hi thanks for the reply, its the basic blouse pattern. please let me know the shoulder stra width, for front it looks broader and back narrower. so please give us the exact measurement,thank you for your kind reply
and also when we cut the front and back body for raglan sleeve from arm hole, the curve goes from armhole to neck point so are suppose to keep front and back on fold together(one below the other) and do it, or separate.if its separate fold then the height varies right?
so kindly clarify this in the post basic blouse to raglan sleeve. idid by keeping front and bcak together and cut it, hope its right….thanks in advance waiting for your reply soon
one more last request the basic darted blouse has extra darts right from arm hole, then from front patti can you show that too,or include it…as many blouse we wear is darted blouse know, sorry to put you with so many questions at a time….

Nice to see you again! I have tried to solve your doubts here:
1. Shoulder width is kept the same. As of now, I am taking it 1 ¼ inch less than actual half shoulder on the pattern for a deep back neckline. I am on a research about shoulder measurements and will post it as and when I complete it.
2. May be you have cut paper patterns together? Then you are right. After the patterns are cut, front and back parts are cut separately on the fabric. Raglan line position on front and back part are the same. But only the depth varies as it is done in the normal set in sleeves. One more difference between front and back raglan body parts is that neck depth varies.
3. Sure! You can add another dart from armhole too 🙂 But, remember, the waistline dart needs to be 5 cm wide for a nice fit.

thank you soooooo much for your valuable reply, mam. i will follow the same measurement for shoulder strap as you say, but while joining the front and back sholuder strap there will be lagging of 1 inch right is it fine. And for waist band/patti(IF NEEDED) can we cut and rejoin the dotted lines shown in basic blouse pattern with extra SA or any other measurement for it mam.sorry to put you into so many queries, the more i do research in it the more i get doubts, sorry.As i have seen the darted blouse has separate waist band /patti, so asked.thank you for your immediate response mam, you are too kind.hope this will be my last doubt in blouses,sorry.

Are you asking about the blouse length in the front and back? If yes, my answer is:
We take front part less by 3cm (about 1inch) compared to the back when making patterns for a yoked blouse. Here in basic sari blouse, front and back parts are of the same length. So, I have shown the position of waist band joint that would be in a yoked blouse.
You are right 🙂 If a yoke is to be added to the same design, the front part is cut 3/4cm to 1cm (seam allowance) below the doted yoke seam line (about 5cm above the bottom hem) and yoke is added.

You seem to be very keen about interesting styles and patterns!
I have just checked the link. It is an elegant single piece umbrella kameez made of a high drape material. I guess the drape is achieved by taking the centre front and back of the pattern in bias. The video is not very clear but it seems that the sleeve is extended from shoulder unlike the usual set ins.
Surprisingly, I was planning to sew an umbrella kameez! But, it would take a month or two to publish a post if I consider all the previous requests in the queue. So, please let me know if you can wait for so long.

To clarify any doubts that others have reading this conversation, I would say, there is no difference in the shoulder widths of front and back. But, both front and back shoulder widths are taken less than the actual measurement (say 1 1/4 inch) when the back neck is deep.

We have discussed and clarified that shoulder measurements are the same for front and back parts. It is only the front bodice part that shortens about 5cm (which is balanced by the yoke part) in length from that of back part.
